THE PETER MONTEITH PERPETUAL TROPHY

Peter Monteith was ScotNorth’s first Patron and instrumental in setting up and supporting ScotNorth.

Here are some fond memories before going on to talk about the Trophy

Peter and his beloved Valedictory

Ever the champ - won by Master Bavard, a difficult horse that
Peter believed in and made a multiple winner

Always his first thought was for the horse

And his owners loved his enthusiasm and love for their horses

I loved his wicked sense of pure 'devilment'

And he loved to share the champagne with friends

The club’s committee want to do something to honour not only his contribution to racing but also his dedication to the horses in his care and his unfailing desire to ensure, when the time was right to leave racing, these horses had the best possible chance at a long and happy ‘retirement’ as an ex racehorse.

The lucky ScotNorth members who have a 'retired' Peter Monteith trained horse will all agree that they left Peter's yard very well adjusted with impeccable manners, lots of personality and in the very best of form within themselves.

We have thought long and hard about how best to honour Peter’s memory.  How can you pay tribute to such a wonderful ambassador not only for racing but for ensuring these horses also have a happy and fulfilling retirement as an ex racehorse? And there, in the question, we found our answer.

Each year, commencing in 2011, the committee will vote for the horse and rider who have, in their view, been great ambassadors for ex racehorse ownership.  This means the award is open to everyone at every level, regardless of what you do together

We are not looking for ‘winners’ we are looking for a combination that inspire ex racehorse ownership and show how fantastic these horses are.

In order that we can keep ourselves informed we would ask, if you have not already done so, that you register on the forum and occasionally post about what you have been doing together.  We stress, you do not need to be out competing and winning, it is about the partnership, it is about sticking together through good times and bad – it is about showing what a fabulous friend for life an ex racehorse can make.

The Peter Monteith Perpetual Trophy will be awarded to the winner at our Annual Championship Show, normally held around September each year.

We do hope you agree that this is the best way in which to honour Peter and ensure his name is always connected with the club that he helped to start.
