Introducing ScotNorth

ScotNorth is a club for ex racehorse owners and enthusiasts based in Scotland and The North.

Visit the 'About Us' page to learn more about who we are and what we are about in more detail.

You can also watch the BBC Landward feature on life after racing.  The feature was arranged after the BBC contacted ScotNorth to help them pull together a feature for their Landward series.  http://www.bbc.co.uk/scotland/player/?item=44534851

Please note the website was launched in April 08 and we are stil adding to and updating it.

Club Patron

We are very proud to have Peter Monteith, one of Scotland's top trainers as our club patron.

This strengthens the link between the club, racing and potential ex racehorse owners.

Many of our members have horses from Peter and he is always delighted to see them, indeed any ex race horse, out and about having a great life after racing.

Special Announcement October 2008

Scotnorth is a year old this month.

We just wanted to thank all of you for making it such a success in such a short time - a club is only as good as its members.  A special thanks also to the Planning committee who have worked really hard to build up profiles in their areas and to the riding clubs and shows that have hosted our classes and awards.

In just a year we have achieved so much and 2009 is looking like it's going to be full of even more new events and a few nice surprises too.

We are an 'area focussed' club and intend to stay that way.  One of the reasons for setting up was to focus on the North of England and Scotland and build a strong reputation - for all the right reasons - in these areas.  Let's just review what we have all achieved together in such a short time.

We've had 41 different events from shows to clinics, paraded at racecourses and Thirlestane, been featured on BBC Landward and were instrumental in Mindy and Skips being featured on Borders TV (thanks to Gilly who arranged all of that).  We have been regularly published in Scottish & Northern Equestrian Magazine as well as features in The Scotsman and Edinburgh Evening News.

We have secured the services of top class instructors such as Les Smith, FEI International Coach and David Gatherer, top Scottish Eventer and highest ranked Scottish rider on the FEI World Rankings (2006) as well as judges from the racing arena Clive Storey (trainer and jockey) Andrew Crow (trainer) and Jane Glass (winning owner, breeder and producer of racehorses).

We also secured sponsorship from many trainers in Scotland and The North along with generous support from Top Spec, Premier Equine International, Likit, Equikro, Buccleuch Estates, CR Rosettes and Drum Feeds and not forgetting the fantastic support we have from The Scottish & Northern Equestrian Magazine.

The results speak for themselves in respect of why we did this.  By focussing on defined areas we have built a solid reputation for ourselves and will continue to do so during 2009.

We have one or 2 plans up our sleeves for 2009 but will announce them once they come to fruition.

So we would just like to say thanks to everyone for all the support in our first year and here's to even more fun in 2009.

Lisa & Sandra
